11th April 2026
Jumpstart April 2026 marked an exciting start for students stepping into the Faculty of Computing & Informatics (FCI) during the March 2026 intake. In this event, we brought several seniors and alumni to talk about the journey the FCI freshies might experience.
Ice-breaking Session

First, the event began with some introduction about the faculty, IT Society and their committees. The participants also got the chance to introduce themselves, share their interests and get to know one another.
Discovering FCI and Beyond
Planning Ahead

Participants were given an overview of what to expect throughout their journey in FCI. One advice shared was the importance of planning ahead, especially when it comes to specialization selection and internships.
IT Society’s Past Events

The session also introduced IT Society and its role within MMU. Students learned about past events such as workshops, tech talks, and industrial visits to companies like AWS, Setel, and iFast.
Other Tech Clubs in MMU

Future events and various tech clubs available in MMU were also shared, encouraging students to get involved beyond academics and to have fun outside of the classroom. Popular tech student bodies like Game Developers Club (GDC) and TechGirls Club were promoted, alongside big annual events such as CyberChain and BarCamp.
Exploring Specialisations
A dedicated specialisation slot provided insights into the different academic paths available for freshies who are taking Bachelor of Computer Science. We invited Sri Raam to share his experience in studying Cybersecurity, Ahmad Daniel in Data Science and Phartiban in Software Engineering. Students were guided through course structures for each specialisation, including Year 2 and Year 3 subjects, core modules, and elective options.

Beyond academics, the seniors also talked about lecturers’ teaching styles and shared helpful perspectives on Final Year Projects (FYP), giving the new students a few more hints of what lies ahead.
Learning from Those Who’ve Been There

One of the most impactful segments of Jumpstart 2026 was the alumni sharing session. We gathered Azri Syahmi Azhar (right), Mohamad Razlan Nazmi Bin Ramli (middle) and Joe Ming Tham (left) to share their personal journeys, offering practical advice, lessons learned, and tips they wished they had known earlier during their studies.
Resources to Get Ahead
To wrap things up, participants were introduced to a variety of useful learning resources that can support their growth beyond the classroom. Platforms such as freeCodeCamp, Coursera, and various YouTube channels were recommended, giving students a head start in building their technical skills and exploring new areas of interest.
A Promising Start

This Jumpstart may have been a smaller gathering, but it delivered a meaningful and impactful experience for everyone who joined. From forming new connections to familiarising themselves about the academics and opportunities, the event successfully set them ready for what lies ahead in the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, MMU Cyberjaya.
IT Society wishes the new freshies all the best in their studies and career ahead!
