CodeNection 2025 is a programming-focused event organized by the Faculty of Computing and Informatics and co-organized by IT Society MMU Cyberjaya that includes a series of workshops and a Hackathon which happens in multiple stages. This event will be opened to all university students in Malaysia and aims to encourage a collaborative and inventive mindset within our local programming culture.
Expect a unique journey from a dedicated Prototype Phase to an intensive Build Phase culminating in mandatory project deployment, and an extended Deploy Phase where your innovation goes live for a month.

Is there any registration fee for this event?
Free Entry! However, a refundable deposit of RM15.00 per team is required, regardless of team size. This deposit will be refunded within 2 weeks after the Grand Finals concludes. Please note that if any terms and conditions of the competition are violated, or if your team does not submit anything during the Prototype Phase, the deposit will not be refunded.
Who is eligible to participate in this event?
Any university/college students currently pursuing studies in Malaysia regardless of nationality. Postgraduate students are welcome too!
What platform will be used for the competition, and is this a virtual or on-site event?
The Prototype Phase, Building Phase, Deployment Phase and workshops will be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams, while the Grand Finals will be held on-site at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya.
How many members are allowed per group?
Each group must consist of two (2) to four (4) members.
Where can I register for this event?

What is the deadline to register for this event?
The registration starts on 24 July 2025 at 10:00 am. The deadline to register is at 11:59 pm, 23 August 2025.
How do I know my team is successfully registered?
After you submit the team formation form and our team has received and reviewed it, you will receive an email at the registered email address.

Is individual participation allowed?
Sorry, individual participation is not allowed. Participants must form a team of two (2) to four (4) members.
What should I do if I don’t have a valid student email?

Why do we submit our resumes?
This will make it easier for our sponsors to offer job opportunities to finalists/winners.

What is the structure of this competition?
CodeNection 2025 will have 3 phases:
The top 40 teams (10 teams per track) will qualify for the Final Round (Building Phase and Deployment Phase). These qualifying teams will receive notifications via email once the results of the Prototype Phase are finalised.

What platform will be used for the competition, and is this a virtual or on-site event?
The Preliminary Round and workshops will be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams, while the Final Round will be held on-site at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya.
What tech stacks are we allowed to use?
Any tech stack that you prefer or are skilled in is allowed.
How many submission attempts are allowed, and who can submit them?
Each team is allowed only one submission per round/phase, and it must be submitted by the team leader.
How does the scoring work in this competition?
Scoring is done by a panel of judges after the completion of each phase. The judges’ decisions are final and non-debatable.
Who will be eligible to advance to the Final Round?
The top 40 teams (10 per track) from the preliminary round will advance. Teams will be notified via email.
How can participants request clarification or seek help if they encounter difficulties understanding a problem statement during the competition?
Participants can reach out to the organising team via Discord or Microsoft Teams. Further instructions will be provided on the event day.
When will the problem statements be released?
All problem statements will be released on the Kick-off Day (24th August 2025).
What is the Deployment Phase?
The Deployment Phase starts after the Building Phase. Finalists must deploy their projects for public use. No major features may be added during this phase—only bug fixes are allowed.
How do we gather user feedback?
User feedback can be gathered through GitHub Issues, a contact us form or any similar methods.
Do we need to maintain our project after the hackathon?
Yes, and we will give recognition to projects that are still being maintained in future CodeNections.
Is the Grand Finals physical?
Yes. The Grand Finals will be held physically at MMU Cyberjaya, at least one team member must attend in person.
What is the prize pool?
The total prize pool for the event is RM 15,400, subject to change.
How do I know if my team wins a prize?
You can get a direct announcement during our prize-giving ceremony, and the winners will also get an email from our team. You can also check our official social media channels for any updates regarding the competition winners.
What will I receive if I join CodeNection 2025?
All finalists who attend the final round will receive a CodeNection Kit on the day of the event, which includes a CodeNection Nametag, a CodeNection T-Shirt, a CodeNection Tote Bag, a CodeNection Lanyard, a CodeNection Badge and a CodeNection Sticker.
What is a CodeNection kit?
All finalists who attend the final round will get a special CodeNection Kit on event day! It includes a CodeNection Event Shirt, a CodeNection Event Tote Bag, a CodeNection Event Lanyard, a CodeNection Event Badge, and a CodeNection Event Sticker.
Where can I find more info about the prize pool?
The prize pool information will be posted on our social media and Discord server. Please be aware of the announcements and updates on our official social media platforms.
How do I get an extra goodie?
The extra goodie will be given to the participants who submitted their resumes and made it to the finals.
Will there be a workshop that participants can attend in preparation for the competition?
Yes, there will be three (3) workshops to help participants prepare for the competition held virtually via Microsoft Teams. Frontend Workshop (25th August 2025), Backend Workshop (26th August 2025), Machine Learning (ML) Workshop (27th August 2025).
Where can I get the invitation to the workshop?
Workshop invitations will be sent to participants in advance via email and Discord announcement.
Will there be announcements for the workshop?
Certainly, we will make workshop announcements on Discord, email and other social media platforms.
Will we get a mentor assigned to us throughout the event?
No, mentors are not permanently assigned to teams. Instead, teams can book sessions with any available mentor during the mentorship period, depending on the available slots.
How do we schedule a mentorship session?
Teams must schedule their sessions via a Google Sheet provided by the organizers.
How long is each mentorship session?
Each session lasts approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
What platform will the mentorship sessions be conducted on?
All sessions will be conducted through Discord.
Is there a limit to the total number of mentorship sessions during the mentorship period?
Teams may only schedule as many mentorship sessions as they desire throughout the Mentorship Period. No limits!
How will the mentorship be conducted – is it group-based or individual?
It will be one group to one mentor – not a shared or open session.
Can teams choose their mentor?
Yes, teams are allowed to select their mentor when booking the session.
How do participants make an appointment – is it through Google Form or another method?
Appointments must be scheduled via the Google Sheet provided by the organizer, not directly with the mentor.
Is this mentorship part of a larger programme or event?
Yes, it is part of the overall programme, and the organizing team will also be involved to help facilitate the sessions.
