Stepping beyond the classroom and into a real industry environment, IT Society MMU organised an industrial visit to Jobstreet by SEEK Malaysia on the 14th of May, giving students the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to the technology industry and workplace culture at SEEK’s Kuala Lumpur office.

Upon arrival at Menara AIA Cap Square, participants registered at the office before gathering for a series of sharing sessions led by SEEK representatives. The visit provided valuable insights into the company’s operations, career opportunities, and the collaborative processes behind building products used by millions of job seekers and employers across the region.
About SEEK & Technology Domains
The sharing sessions were led by Kavitha, Shauna, Julian, and Jake, who introduced participants to SEEK’s mission and the role Jobstreet plays as both a technology company and an employment marketplace.

The speakers shared insights into the different areas within SEEK’s technology organisation and how cross-functional teams work together to deliver products and services. This gave participants a broader understanding of the variety of roles and opportunities available within the tech industry.

Participants were also introduced to SEEK’s graduate programmes, where they gained insights into career pathways, application processes, and the qualities SEEK looks for in future graduates. Beyond technical skills, the speakers emphasised the importance of finding a workplace that aligns with one’s personality, values, and career aspirations.

Another highlight of the session was a sharing by Jake, a Technical Product Manager, who walked participants through SEEK’s product release lifecycle. Through practical examples, students learned how product, design, data, and engineering teams collaborate throughout the process, from identifying user problems and designing solutions to testing, releasing, and continuously improving features.
Grad Round-Chair Discussions

Following the presentations, participants joined small-group round-chair discussions with SEEK employees. This interactive networking session allowed students to engage in more personal conversations and gain insights directly from professionals working in the industry.
Questions such as “What’s the culture like at SEEK?” and “Is AI really going to affect the job industry?” sparked meaningful discussions about workplace experiences, career growth, and the evolving role of technology in today’s workforce.
The informal setting encouraged participants to ask questions freely, providing a valuable opportunity to learn from professionals with different backgrounds and experiences.
Office Tour and Networking
The visit continued with an office tour, where participants explored SEEK’s Kuala Lumpur workspace and gained a closer look at the company’s working environment. Students were able to see how different teams operate and collaborate within the office.

To wrap up the visit, participants gathered at the pantry for refreshments, networking, and photo-taking sessions. Over snacks and pizza, students had the chance to continue conversations with SEEK employees and fellow participants in a more relaxed setting.
Wrapping Up

Overall, the Jobstreet by SEEK Industrial Visit provided participants with valuable exposure to the technology industry and a deeper understanding of the opportunities available within SEEK. Through insightful sharing sessions, engaging discussions, and a firsthand look at the workplace environment, students gained practical perspectives that will be beneficial as they prepare for future internships and careers in the tech industry.
