Career Sharing Highlights
Anwar Zaid (Associate Software Engineer) & Tan Szu Jean (Graduate Software Engineer)

Anwar Zaid and Tan Szu Jean shared their experiences transitioning from university to the professional software engineering industry. They explained that working life is very different from student life, especially in terms of adapting to company culture, teamwork, and real-world expectations.
They emphasized the importance of going beyond the academic syllabus through self-learning. Both speakers encouraged students to join competitions and other events, as well as to take up freelancing opportunities to gain practical experience. However, Tan Szu Jean also reminded students to take care of their mental health while participating in these activities, stressing that personal well-being is just as important as building skills and experience.
Ferguson Nobel (Senior Product Designer)

Ferguson Nobel shared his journey into product design, which began in a game design course where he learned programming and digital illustration. After realizing that programming was not his main interest, he pursued a postgraduate course in design and later joined a UI/UX design bootcamp to develop his design skills further.
To build his portfolio, he worked on several case studies such as redesigning Instagram Shops, creating a mental health companion application, and designing a language-learning application. He concluded by sharing 3 things he wished he knew as a graduate: to learn the boring fundamentals, that your first job is for you to learn, and that it’s normal to pivot.
Daniel Joshuia (Senior Technical Product Manager)

Daniel Joshuia shared his unconventional career journey, which started in aviation when he trained as a pilot. Despite having a contract ready for an airline career, he decided to explore other opportunities, which eventually led him into product management.
He described himself as an “accidental product manager” and explained that career paths are not always linear. Daniel also shared that product managers are responsible for deciding what to build, why it should be built, and how it should be developed. He concluded by advising students to learn to live beyond the classroom, build a wide range of skills early in their careers, and strive for excellence.

Q&A Session

During the Q&A session, all four speakers responded to questions submitted by the audience via Slido. They expanded further on their experiences, shared practical advice for both students and novice workers amongst the audience, and reflected on real-life situations they had encountered throughout their own careers.
This session was engaging and light-hearted at times, with speakers sharing relatable and occasionally humorous experiences that resonated with the audience. The open exchange encouraged more listeners to ask candid questions and provided a more personal perspective on life and growth beyond the classroom.
.
The Panel Session

The panel session revolved around the same career fields, but featured a different group of professionals:
- Aina Diana, a Software Engineer
- Akid Baharom, a Senior Product Designer
- Asyraf Hafiz, a Product Manager
The moderator asked questions focused on the impact of AI on daily workflows, changing industry expectations, and how different roles work together in real-world product development. The panelists were also asked about their career journeys, including personal experiences transitioning between roles and industries. Students commonly asked about internships, entry-level roles, career switching, and expectations in the workplace.
Overall, another enlightening session that the audience sat through and got to learn more from.
