On 18th September 2025, a new chapter in MMU’s tech community began with the launch of DatAI, a student-led special interest group focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and data science. The inaugural DatAI Meetup #1 – Meet & Greet gathered students who share a passion for exploring the data-driven future.
Building an AI-Driven Student Community
DatAI’s mission is to create a space for students to explore cutting-edge AI topics — from machine learning and analytics to computer vision, natural language processing, and responsible AI practices. The group aims to foster a supportive, innovative community where ideas can grow into real projects and collaborations.
Meet & Greet Highlights
The first meetup served as an introduction to DatAI’s vision and goals while giving attendees a chance to connect with like-minded peers. Participants shared their interests, discussed their experiences, and discovered ways to get involved in upcoming DatAI initiatives and learning sessions.
Journey Speakers
Two inspiring student speakers shared their personal experiences in the world of AI and data science:
- Ganessa Tiagrajah, Research Intern @ Aerodyne Group, shared insights from his journey working on applied AI in research environments and how curiosity led him into the field of data science.
- Ahmad Daniel, Data & Operations Intern @ PropertyGuru, discussed his role in the property tech industry, showcasing how data analytics can be applied to real-world business problems.
Their stories gave participants a glimpse into the growing opportunities available to students pursuing AI and data-related careers.
The Start of Something New
The DatAI Meetup #1 marked an exciting beginning for MMU’s AI and data science community. The event not only introduced DatAI’s vision but also connected aspiring data enthusiasts eager to collaborate, learn, and grow together.
“DatAI is about creating a space where students can learn from each other, experiment with real data, and shape the future responsibly,” said one of the organizing members.
