OpenCV Workshop: See the World Differently with AI πŸ‘€

On 8th September 2025, the IT Society MMU hosted an exciting hands-on OpenCV Workshop at Agmo Space, introducing students to the fascinating world of Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence.

Discovering Vision Through Code

The workshop gave participants a chance to explore how computers β€œsee” the world. Using OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision Library) and YOLO (You Only Look Once), attendees learned how AI can detect, track, and classify real-world objects β€” all in real time.

Hands-On Learning with OpenCV & YOLO

Led by the IT Society technical team, the session covered practical steps in building image detection systems using Python, OpenCV, and machine learning models. Students got to experiment with object detection demos and understand how these technologies power modern AI applications in robotics, surveillance, and automation.

An Interactive and Fun Experience

More than just a technical session, the workshop encouraged students to collaborate, ask questions, and apply what they learned in real scenarios. And, of course, no MMU tech event is complete without some fun β€” participants enjoyed free pizza while sharing insights and experiences with fellow AI enthusiasts! πŸ•πŸ€–

Inspiring Future AI Builders

The OpenCV Workshop served as an eye-opening experience for many students taking their first steps into computer vision and machine learning. Participants left with practical knowledge and inspiration to continue exploring how AI can reshape industries and solve real-world problems.

β€œIt’s amazing to see how code can literally recognize the world around us,” shared one participant.

As always, IT Society MMU continues its mission to bring accessible, beginner-friendly tech learning to the MMU community β€” bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world innovation.
